We bear responsibility
Responsible use of resources is important to us. Throughout the BUTTING Group, we rely on recycling and reusable materials to reduce waste and minimise environmental impact. We are continuously working on innovative solutions that optimally meet your requirements while minimising the environmental impact.
Maximum efficiency
Our focus is on using resources efficiently and minimising our environmental impact as much as possible. We are constantly optimising our production processes to reduce energy consumption, waste and emissions. By using state-of-the-art technologies and environmentally friendly materials, we strive to maximise efficiency in production.
High recycling rate
We have been steadily improving our recycling rate for years. Not only do we minimise waste from our various processes, we also subject it to increasingly fine separation at the point of origin. In this way, we feed valuable raw materials directly into the general value chain and conserve natural resources. At our site in Knesebeck, we act in accordance with German Recycling Management Act (GER: Kreislaufwirtschafts- und Abfallgesetz = KrWG).
Effective CO2 reduction
We are striving to achieve CO2 neutrality in all our business areas by 2050. Therefore, we are working on reducing our CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030 and 60% by 2040 compared to the reference year 2022. Over the same period, we want to increase energy efficiency and reduce our scrap and rework rates by 20% each by 2035.

Environmental management
ISO 14001
At BUTTING, we have implemented an environmental management system (EMS) which is certified in accordance with ISO 14001. Among other things, it governs the requirements of the 12th Ordinance of the Federal Immission Control Act (GER: Bundesimmissionsschutzverordnung = BlmSchV). However, these legal requirements and official regulations are minimum standards for us, which we aim to comply as much as possible.
Proactive approach
The environmental management system at BUTTING determines the implementation of measures to prevent environmental damage, monitors environmentally relevant facilities and supports managers in all matters relating to environmental protection. At BUTTING, it is divided into the main areas of environmental protection, waste management, hazardous substance management and incident management.

Incident management
Our production sites in Knesebeck and Könnern are inspected by the relevant supervisory authorities on a regular basis. These on-site inspections are carried out in accordance with Section 17 (2) of the Hazardous Incident Ordinance. The Hazardous Incident Ordinance is part of the German environmental legislation and controls the requirements certain companies are obliged to. This includes, among other things, informing the public.
