Systems for exhaust gas purification
Due to stricter environmental regulations in the Sulphur Emission Control Area (SECA), new ships are being built directly with exhaust gas purification systems, while existing ships have to be upgraded. In both cases, we are your solution provider specialising in material consulting, material procurement and production, including documentation.
Scrubber
Ships that are currently still using heavy fuel oil are equipped with exhaust gas purifiers, so-called scrubbers, which wash the sulphur (SOx) produced during combustion out of the exhaust gases. BUTTING is one of the few manufacturers in the world to offer the necessary tanks with internal stainless steel pipework completely "from a single source".
SCR catalytic converters
The name BUTTING does not only stand for innovative but also for sustainable product solutions. In recent years, we have already built a series of SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalytic converters for the shipping industry for cruise and cargo ships on behalf of MAN Energy Solutions. This will reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90 per cent in the future.

On the basis of our stainless steel pipes, austenitic stainless steels and special materials, BUTTING manufactures vesselsand special components, as well as customised piping systems for the maritime industry. The prefabrication of pipework as upstream assembly takes place in the production plant according to your isometric drawings, pipework plans or models.
Materials technology
In exhaust gas purification systems, not only the composition of the exhaust gases but also the medium of seawater plays a decisive role in the selection of materials. The range of materials extends from duplex 1.4462 through 1.4529 / 1.4547 to 2.4605 (Alloy 59). We provide you with comprehensive advice when planning your project in order to find the optimum material solution together with you.
