Plant mechanic
What does your everyday life as a plant mechanic look like?
As a plant mechanic, you will manufacture systems that are used, for example, in tank and apparatus construction, in the process industry or in supply engineering. You will manufacture pipework systems, boiler systems or containers by welding individual parts together and assembling them into large systems. You use a wide variety of welding processes to do this. And everything is done exactly according to plan: you prepare your work using technical drawings and work instructions. To do this, you read the assembly plans and other technical drawings and implement them. After assembly, you check whether the products are working properly.
What suits you
- Technical understanding and a sense of responsibility (e.g. in the production and installation of pipework)
- Flexibility (e.g. with changing working conditions)
- Careful working methods and good hand-eye coordination (e.g. when using different welding technologies)
Industrial mechanic
What does your everyday life as an industrial mechanic look like?
In industry, technical systems have to run like clockwork at all times. As an industrial mechanic, you are responsible for ensuring that large and small machines are always ready for operation. You will manufacture equipment parts, machine components and assemblies and assemble them into machines and technical systems. To do this, you will learn to read technical drawings and create your own assembly drawings. You will then set up machines and systems, put them into operation and test their functions. Finally, you will instruct colleagues in the operation and handling of the machines. Your tasks will also include servicing and maintaining the systems. You determine the causes of faults, order suitable spare parts or manufacture them yourself and carry out repairs.
What suits you
- Dexterity and good hand-eye coordination (e.g. when assembling components into machines)
- Care (e.g. when aligning and clamping workpieces)
- Technical understanding and manual dexterity (e.g. when maintaining machines and production systems)

What suits you

- Drawing skills (e.g. for the technically correct visualisation of products)
- Conscientious working methods and manual dexterity
- Customer orientation (e.g. when realising customer wishes)
- Careful working methods and manual dexterity
